I am sorry if you are reading this again as I was not sure where to post it. First time chicken Mommy..

I have 20 ~ 3 wk old chicks. BO,IB,BR,AR and BO. I went down today after listening to much squawking to find a couple of the chicks chasing 1 BO and pecking at her beak and then at her rear feathers. Once they started, many other would try to join in. They seemed to settle down and stop the behavior after a few minutes.

I returned to cleaning and about 2 hrs later went back and 1 BO had blood on her feathers. I have since removed her from the others and it appears to have quieted down in the brooder, except for her. She is in a playpen along side the brooder and she is pacing and peeping watching the others as though she is being punished.

I placed some oatmeal paste on the area where they were peeking her (as advised by a fellow member) but am unsure if this is all I would need to do. And when would I return her back to her playmates (if at all) prior to them going into the coop in a few weeks.

Thanks...

You could try some Blue-Kote. I have three BO and when they were 3-4 weeks old I had the same issue with two of them. Sprayed the pecked areas with a little Blue-Kote and problem solved. They stayed with the flock, no seperation.

It would e good to put another chick with her if you can. See if there's one who is a little smaller or quieter than the others.
