3 week old chick puffy around head neck & crop; very listless; help!

I have a 3 week old easter egger who has been listless since yesterday and has now puffed up around the head, neck and crop. The vent is open, does not have runs, any ideas of what it is or how to help it? Any info would be appreciated.

I am sorry but i think that one is lost or severly suffering from internal injuries. Our chickens attacked by dogs were puffed up like that and died in a matter of hours. We held them and dipped their heads in water.

It sounds like a ruptured air sac, sometimes they close on their own and sometimes the chick is lost. You can relieve the extra air from under the skin with just a needle without a syringe attached. aside from knowing that little bit I'm at a loss.

Thanks for the info! This chick is alive this morning but still listless. It did eat which is encouraging.
