3 week old Pekin duckling hasn't grown :(

Welcome to BYC!

When I think one is not growing properly, I weight it every few days on a kitchen scale, and as long as it makes gains, I don't worry.

Thank you kathy, I'll start weighing him, but he's the same size from when I got him at 3 days old !

A while back I had a chick with the same problem. She wasn't growing. It turns out that all she (or he) needed was sunlight, exercise and plenty of lawn to forage on. If your duck it still inside, just let them out.

They have been outside, every day that I've had them. She's only inside at night.

I just wonder if the larger one wasn't left from the stores other hatching. sometimes they get a new shipment in and have a few left over from the last hatch. I would say the larger one is at least a week older then the small one. It looks a lot bigger in the box and that was the box you brought it home in wasn't it? That's my guess the bigger one is older then the other one. Just a week will make a big difference in size.

maybe, my little one died this morning :( I don't exactly understand why. But in the almost month I had him, he never grew, while my larger one grew . Though, my larger one has been cring all morning along with my 3 year old. My bigger one only Liles him, I'm not sure how to go about getting her another mate, I don't want to bring in a much smaller one, for her to it the little one.

Sorry to hear that. The one that I was talking about (a chicken, not a duck) had the same fate. It began to grow for a short while after but didn't get any bigger than a softball before mysteriously dying. Very sad and I can't explain how this happens.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

You may want to get a mirror and set beside the cage. That helps a lot and they think they have a friend. I had the same thing happen to me. Also a little stuffed animal might help too. If you introduce another duck keep them seperated so they can see each other if that is possible. After about a week take them outside and see how they do togeather. Again I'm sorry I know how it feels to lose a little one that you've cared for and loved.

Thank you. She's got a stuffed animal, but I never thought of using a mirror ! I believe I'll get another this weekend for her, and use that advice. Thank you !
