3 week old Rhode Island Red Rooster trampled. Help Please.

Hello All,

I have a Rhode Island Red Rooster who is about 3 weeks old. He was in a pen with a bunch of other Rhode Island Reds that are the same age. The other morning I went out to feed and 3 birds were dead and he was barely alive. I figured he would die shortly after (he was breathing really hard and not cheeping); however, I was actually able to nurse him with an eye dropper and he's doing a lot better. He is awake and puts up a fight when I feed him; however, he still isn't walking. I'm not sure if he is bruised or if the other birds paralyzed him somehow.

He is currently separated from the other birds and is in a box with a light.

If anyone has any suggestions I would greatly appreciate it!! Thank You!!!!

Hi, so sorry about your chicken. Trauma can take awhile to heal depending on the injury, you can add some vitamin E to it's diet to help with healing, also give a good vitamin sup.

Do you have any idea why the others died? Where they being bullied? What are you feeding them and keeping them in? Some of this info might help us get a better idea what may have happened...............

This morning Kootona (the rooster) actually ate on his own. I have had the food (chick starter) next to him ever since the injury, but he hasn't eaten any. This morning he was still laying down and unable to walk, but he was eating.

Anyways, the chicks are now in an outdoor pen. We make sure they always have plenty of chick starter and water. We have had the bullying problem a lot with this batch of meat roosters. We've raised meat birds before and never lost any due to a bullying problem. We definitely think the other roosters died due to this bullying. I'm really hoping Kootona survives; we have decided to spare him and he will have a happy live with our laying hens.

**Also, I've noticed that his right leg talons arelike curled up, while his left leg talons are straight out.

Hey Everyone.
Just thought I would update.

Kootona died this morning.

I thought he was turning the corner and getting better, but I guess not. Thanks for the suggestions though. If anything ever happens again, I know where to come.
