We are getting two silkies tomorrow. They are about 3 weeks old. I know at that age it's virtually impossible to tell which gender they are for certain. I was wondering if there was anything I should look for that would give me some indication of whether they are male or female. Thanks!

At three weeks your not going to be able to tell the gender. The only time you can guess with silkies after day old is once they've grown in their hat/tuff on the top of the head, Males will have a few longer feathers, hens have all the feathers same length. Even then you may not be sure until they start crowing or laying.

Thank you for your help! I will just pick the two who seem the friendliest and go from there :) I've heard the roosters are friendly too, so if they are, its no big deal if we end up with one...or two :)

Roosters crest feathers are all the same length until their streamers come in (which usually happens after most everything else comes in). Some folks say chicks with narrower combs have a better chance at being girls, but its never held true for me. Pick the chicks that seem healthiest.

We got home with our two babies a couple hours ago and they are settled in, doing nicely. Let me just say that I have never ever seen anything as adorable as these two!!! I am in LOVE :) Sweet little babies. I will post photos tomorrow.
