I live in Southern Maryland. 3 weeks ago - we had a hot streak in the weather. 100+ degree days for a few days in a row. Chickens stopped laying. I related it to the heat. Then it got coolish again (70's - 80's.) Still no eggs. Then hot again - another rash of 100+ degree days - then I noticed turkeys were not laying either. Its now been 3 weeks - and I have no chicken or turkey eggs.
I get one or two every few days. I have 30 layers all right around 2 years. They're Ameracana's, Black Astralorp's, Rhode Island Red's, Red Comet's, and Barred Rock's. All good layers. They have all been exceptional layers for me. They free range daily and 100% forage. They come back to the coop religiously every night to be locked up from predators. They have ample fresh air in coop and ample fresh water throughout the farm to drink from throughout the day.
What has me thinking its the weather is my Heritage Black Spanish Turkeys have stopped laying too.
Any ideas?
In desperation today i bought a bag of FCA Layer - maybe they are not getting a mineral or vitimen they need? I dont think so because both chickens and turkeys stopped laying but it cant hurt in worst case.
Ideas?
Thanks.
