3 welsummers....3 different colors at 9 weeks

Welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined us!

You Have a pretty variety of chicks! I would have thought the grey one was a dark Brama but the eyes aren't quite right. So @Gray Farms may be right about her. The brown one is a Welsummer and the black one is either Australorp or Black Sex Link. All of them should be good layers. ;)

TSC is notorious for having the breeds wrong. I bought 4 Amberlink pullets from them this spring and ended up with one pullet, two roosters and a Cornish cross meat bird. :barnie

After looking at the black one again I'm reminded of a Speckled Sussex. Does she have any spots at all?

No spots. I wish. A speckled sussex I a gorgeous bird. Based on my Google searches, at weeks I should already be seeing speckles.

I have a black australorp and there are clear differences. My australorp has a greenish sheen to her black coat, and she has dark legs and feet. The head is different too. Any other guesses?

I am trying to isolate a result by her appearance as a new chick. She presented just like a welsummer and the newly identified leghorn as hatchlings.

Somehow I missed that the black chick had chipmunk markings. Can you get a picture of just that one, no others obscuring the body?

ETA: also, if you have a photo of them as babies, I want to see. I know they looked alike to you but there are subtle differences and I'm curious to see how the melanization looked.

Here are current photos of her. I don't have any good close ups from hatchlings.

I had another thought that the one we IDed as silver Leghorn (but has pinkish ears?) and this dark one might actually be two terribly "off" Iowa Blues. I've heard that the hatchery ones are barely recognizable as IBs.
