Hey, all of these monsters grew up together just fine:

It's mainly a matter of numbers and time spent socializing before leaving them alone, as others have said. The chicks and big duckling in that photo are about the same age - I timed the shipment of chicks to arrive when I was expecting my Welsh Harlequin eggs to hatch. Shipping of the hatching eggs was done too early in the year, most of the eggs froze in the mail... the only one that hatched was Alex. The baby Rouen was gotten ASAP to keep Alex aware that he wasn't a chicken. I think it's easier and quicker to get everyone safely friendly when there's only one "big" baby.
