3 year old Australorp hasn't lasted in a year

I see others have mentioned they have hens that will stop laying and then suddenly lay again. What's up with that? I have a black Australorp that laid almost an egg a day (except when molting or the dead of winter) for 2 years. Last year when she went through a molt in the fall, she never started laying again. It's been almost a year since she laid an egg.
 
Then I would think she is done. When they talk about breeds - they are talking averages, but each bird is an individual.

Personally - I would not expect her to lay again. I have seen posts were a hen quits and then years later begins to lay again, but I don't think it happens often.

Some people keep the free loaders, as life long pets, other remove them and get younger birds.
