3 year old chicken - ILL! please please ... any advice would be great!

Hello BYC,

I need some more advice please - it's not been a good week.

She's 3 years old, and a excellent layer. She's very active, and she's pretty greedy when it
comes to food! She's also the leader of the chickens.

Now, this morning, she's lost her appetite, and whattles are no longer bright red.
Her poo is liquidy white, and she just sits in a corner quietly now.

We have another 7 hens and, so far, no others have these symptoms. Their coop is lined
with fresh newspaper daily.


What could be wrong with her?

I would worry about her being egg bound or internal laying. Feel her bottom area and see if you can feel an egg if she is egg bound a good soak in warm water for 20-30 min might help her relax and lay. Also putting some oil in and around the vent might help the eggs pass. You can do a search using the search button in the blue bar at the top of the page. Good luck and hope your hen gets better fast.

She's still not well, and her wings are beginning to droop. I'm really really worried - she's sleeping right now.
Her tail is down too.

Do you think it could be coccidiosis?
