3 year old duck in dog fight, bottom 1/3 bill shattered

Wow! Some ducks are just braver then they should be. ;)
If you can go to a vet, you should get the rest of that bill removed so it can heal. Your duck will probably also need antibiotics. If you can gently flush the bill with warm water and very mild soap solution it will help clean it up of bacteria from the dog. Your duck can do fine with partial bill, but will have to learn to eat and drink again once it's healed.

I am sorry to say this, but by your description he seems beyond repair and will probably succumb to his wounds. The proximity of domestic dogs and cats that aren't trained to be around fowl tend to do more damage than feral predators.

Ducks have a strong will to live. It doesn't always work out, but if a duck is willing to hang in there, then the limiting factor is, in my mind, our ability to offer them proper support and treatment. A good duck vet can help sort it out.

He is much better - we taped the upper bill and lower bill with bandage tape, gave him antibiotics and have kept him in a small fenced area so he cannot do any more damage to himself. He is eating chick starter and baby food and drinking well. Still obviously bothered by the bandage but he's tough ( which is what got him into this mess to start with.

I cannot thank you all enough!! Your responses helped so much and I am so impressed with this whole community. Going to try to bath him tomorrow and I will post new pics
