30lb hanging feeder with open top

Has anyone ever had any pullets or chickens get inside the feeder and die

You can avoid that by placing a large pie tin or the top of a large cookie tin over the top of it. They can certainly get inside and could become trapped.

No, but I recently lost a hen who had climbed inside a half empty bag of pine shavings, laid an egg, and evidently suffocated.

I was worried about my young chicks getting stuck in my feeder. I just made sure I always kept the feeder full until they outgrew the openings. If I topped it off a couple of times a day the feed never dropped below a couple of inches.

I will try the pie pan. I always seen them in there and never thought about them getting trapped. Not just one but two was dead in the bottom

I have a large funnel shaped top on mine to keep them from perching on it

I have a plastic plate on top of my feeders and a funnel.
