32 Degrees and the girls wanted OUT...

I was going to say that mine were out in the 25 degree temps this morning but you all have me beat with the cold weather. As far as the snow??? I have no idea - we do not get it!

All you northern folks are making me... BRRRRRRR - very cold!

I was going to detail how my chickens are dealing with temps down in single digits and wander around in nothing but their feathers but Envirogirl12's chicken carol about summed it up.

As Mathew 22 says about chickens here in the north, "Many are cold but few are frozen."

It got down to 24 here last night and the goobers slept out in their run on the ground

They're not chicks are they? If not, let em out-it was mighty frosty this morning when I let mine out.

Seven degree wind chill today and they were out in it. I did chase them back in early though to shut the door and let the heat lamp work it's magic above the waterer. I'm planning to let them out any day it's not raining or snowing and or temps above 0.

55degrees?? Turn off the heat lamps, and let them be chickens! The difference in temps. can not possibly be good for them!
Let them out, they have feathers!!!
What do you think the Cardinals, Chickadees, Nuthatches and other tiny birds do at night in the winter? They are fine.

When I go the barn (reluctantly) at 7:30 in the morning, it is 20 degrees and I open the barn door; I sitll have to watch my head and feet from flying and running chickens making a mad dash for the open door. I can not wait until a big snow hits and they come a running for the door or better yet they have already made the decision to fly out the door. OH WHAT FUN WILL HAVE as santa says. Hey, ya gotta get your kicks on the farm any way you can.

Mine spend the day outside regardless of the weather, but I currently keep a brooder light on in the coop b/c I have a mama in there with 1 week old chicks that I really don't want to have to bring into the house.

They are fine being outside. Most of my chickens free range all year long. They walk around in the snow and it doesn't hurt them. As long as they can go in the coop at night there fine.
