37 weeks old and still no eggs... is this normal??

Ah well, waiting is all I can do... she is part of the family whether she lays eggs or not... but am HOPING it will be soon!

Maybe she's psychic because there was a TINY egg in the nesting box this morning, mixed in with the others. It's either her first effort or a fart, I'll crack it open later and see if it has a yolk or not.

Seriously, it's the size of a pigeon egg!

My girls hatched 5/15/2009 Not an egg! Nothing silly clucks! GLW deep Red waddles, bright red combs but nothing although they have taken a fancy to the rooster and stopped trying to run him off! I think I may start playing some Sinatra and get them in the mood!

My girls hatched 7/20/2009 nothing from them either! SLW - One looks really red in the waddles and comb the others still is light pink

My Barred Plymouth Rock looks like she is ready to lay (7/20) but Nothing

I think it is a chicken conspiracy and they are all infertile or something!

A few folks have mentioned wattle color as an indicator of maturity- I had no idea! My first flock is now about 25 weeks and two hens are laying VERY regularly. I noticed everyone's combs changing but it never occurred to me it would mean eggs were to follow. Is this a reliable predictor or just one characteristic of maturation that may or may not be connected to another?

Yes pink comb means not mature enough. You are dealing with two duel purpose breeds bred together. If you are feeding a layer feed of 16% protien you need to up it to 18% or 20%. Cut out any treats and scratch. Watch to make sure she is not getting chased away from feed. I had one that was and she was growing slow. So after everyone ate I shooed them off so she could eat. Some pullets just kept wanting to chase her off but i put a stop to it. She caught up fast and just started laying herself 35 weeks. Many started at 20 weeks.

I am glad someone else is wondering this too. I have a silver laced Wyandotte who is over 40 weeks old, and still not a single egg. But I have noticed the last few days her comb is REALLY red, so hopefully that means an egg is on its way!
