3rd Annual New Year's Day Hatch!!

i have a lazy old rat terrier who has never chased anything in her life, and a year old chihuahua/shihtzu - she was the one that the hens used to chase around the yard. i would give them snacks and she would try to steal some - it was the best entertainment. she's very fluffy so i daydream about seeing her laying on the couch with a brood of chicks under her ears - but then i remember that she chews the hands off barbies... i dont want chickies that close, lol.

Ok I think I have decided on this one as my entry ....

It's a life threatening process that can happen to a patient on heparin, which is an anticoagulant. Unfortunately the reaction causes blood clots throughout the body, which can be fatal and requires the use of a different type of anticoagulant. Lets just say I'm happy I'm certified in anticoagulation and so is the hospitalist that was on today.

I just don't understand how the entire day can be cake until my shift is about to be over. Every. Single. Weekend.

I was on heparin for the majority of my last pregnancy. I had no idea that this could happen. I thought that the heparin would stop clots from happening.

wow... well I hope the patient gets well quickly.

I'm so disappointed, I just threw out 20 of my 24 shipped eggs, all were nonstarters and some had started to weep. I kept 2 maran eggs, cause I can't make out what's going on inside (hope they don't explode) and 2 ancona that I think are growing. I still have 9 local eggs and they seem on track ( I think, I hope).
I may be forced to get a rooster to get a hatchable egg!

It does stop clots from happening, usually. HIT is a very rare complication of heparin and paradoxically causes clots. I'm sure you had CBCs when you were on heparin, that's what they were checking for. Normally we'd be more worried about osteoporosis with long term heparin than HIT. But total hijacking of the thread... mostly I wanted to use "HIT hit the fan" cause it made me giggle.
