3rd Annual New Year's Day Hatch!!

We are winding down our New Years Day hatch with 11 robust chicks and three that needed some help due to humidity issues. So our final count was 14 out of 18 hatched.

I'm up to 18 of 29 locked down, and 2 pipping. It is interesting to see how different breeds/origin of location eggs hatch, the FBCM all hatched pretty close together. The same seller also sent BLRW. They waited nearly 24 hours to hatch, then are hatching fairly close together. Stuff like that....

Been real fun ya'll. From someone who's watched just one chick hatch three different times, this is like birthday-Christmas-summer vacation all wrapped into one!

I hope you see some action today, it is good news that they are chirping and moving!

Thanks. It's maddening to see all the good hatches from people who set on time, and know that we're obviously having issues considering we set a day early. A single pip would jack our spirits a bit...

Hang in there! Don't give up yet, Jeff.

Mahroni: what a nice dentist! Coming in on New Years Day! I may indeed have to wait until Tuesday, things will be better when I get home to my supply of ibuprophren, until then, ice pack.

1 more zipping!!

Mornin. Seems like so many people have had hatching issues.

I'm one of them kinda... I still just have my one chick hatched yesterday afternoon. I woke up to one pip though. I hope the chick can bust out so my other has company. Not sure why the others are slow. I thought they looked good at lockdown. I've only ever had 1 egg I set at lockdown not make it... Good luck those still waiting on eggs! Guess I gotta start up a brooder soon... gonna be very spacious.

13 out so far.. five more with obvious pips, hard to tell with the others since I didn't grab the shells when I snatched the chicks. The 12 earlier ones are all conked out under the giant ecoglow.

When everyone is dry, I'll take a group shot so I can figure out what the heck I hatched.

Do you know what your humidity is? Has your temp possibly been a bit low? If you temp has been a little low, it can take a couple extra days. Don't give up. In the spring, I had eggs hatch days apart in the same bator.

My Marans are finally pipping. It's been probably 36 hours since my first silkie hatched. They were all set together.

Hang in there!

Ok, so after watching an egg rock and roll all over, including very loud chirps, I reached in and turned an egg thinking maybe it had pipped underneath. Not only was it underneath, but on the wrong end!!!!

So what are the implications of a chick pipping from the pointy end? I didn't even know this happened? This could be the one we've been hearing for quite a while, and for all I know, is stuck. We're going to watch it closely for a bit, but wanted to hear the dangers of trying to hatch out the wrong end???
