3rd Annual New Year's Day Hatch!!

Oh wow that is one HUGE pig! How old is it??!!

He is about 1 1/2 years old I believe. For the other questions asked, he's Gloucester Old Spot/Hampshire cross. He is absolutely the sweetest guy ever and loves to be scratched behind his ears!

I am currently convinced that the Duck Egg I have contains a Muscovy Duck. Why else would it take so darn long?!!!

The duck is moving inside when candled and the egg has finally begun to grow dark at the small end! Yesterday's Pipping must have just been an imagined hopeful sound, cause nothing has happened.

He is also not able to rock quite as vigorously which is another sign that it is getting cramped in there and a bit closer to hatching.

I'm going crazy here waiting on this guy, but he is definitely alive and developing in there!

What day is he on?

Well, accounting for about 5-7 days at the start of the hatch when my eggs weren't developing due to temperature and given that it is now day 36 after the duck set date for the hatch I would put him at between 29 and 33 days of development.

Calculating it now it seems about right for a duck, so I have no idea.

I do know that Muscovies take 35 days rather than 28 like a regular duck.

No Muscovy eggs were sent, they re not laying yet, way too young. I agree with you.... running behind due to the low temps early on.

Me neither. <*whispers: 32 surviving chicks out of 77 set, 70 going into lockdown*>

I had 18 chicks hatched total. 2 Icelandics and 2 Araucanas hatched last Thursday. Hope that all of 70 eggs hatch for you.

Oh, no, 33 was the total hatched of the 70 that WENT into lockdown. (All shipped eggs, but from BYCers.) One chick has died, since.
