Just went down to check on my poor leghorn who is in the brooder now. Saw her a few days ago with the worst case of bumblefoot I've ever seen (and we had bumblefoot out the wazoo this summer) and cut it open last night. Her scab was gigantic, not much pus in there, though. Hopefully she heals by the time I start hatching and needing the brooders. I'd hate to put her in a wire cage, kinda defeats the purpose of keeping her protected in the cage.

Amazing they can survive something like a horrible bumblefoot and then cutting into the foot.

She did poop on me last night, twice... just to complain.

I have had a couple bad cases of bumblefoot here, too. Kola, my black Icelandic, had it in both feet. I found that by getting the whole "plug" of cheesy consistency junk out, they heal pretty nice.

DH's email: I put four more of the marked eggs into the bater. That would still leave maybe four unaccounted for...under Goldie...but the silly bird changed boxes. There was a whole pile of eggs in the old box, but only four were marked. After putting four in the bater, I still brought in 8 eggs.

I really would like to know how they are changing boxes with the eggs. I'm gettin me a spy-cam. I gotta see this!

So I think that makes 19 now in the bator, 4 under the broody, but that math means I'm missing one....

My leghorns have had several cases of bad bumblefoot, and like you I didn't get much out. Maybe it's their scrawny feet? I actually left the last one alone and it seems to have gotten better on it's own. I am learning less may be better in the case of bumblefoot surgery.
