3rd Annual New Year's Day Hatch!!

Sorry for your chickie with the pox. Ms Bumblefoot is STILL in the basement in a brooder, alone. I feel so bad for her, but so far she's taking it really well. Doesn't hurt that she's got heat in the basement and gets spoiled with scrambled eggs, warm food and other treats.

Not sure how I will reintegrate Ms. Pox (heh) IF she gets better. Was ready to cull her the other day, but she seems to be holding her own. Going to try and forceps out more pox today. What fun!

Ew, I don't envy you that task. Is that the standard treatment?

Naw, standard treatment for wet pox (plus she has dry as well) is probably 'cull'. But my DH keeps wanting me to try something, so the other option is to keep her throat clear of lesions until she can heal. I'm not optimistic, but in the interest of science I am trying.

It's viral, so antibiotics won't help. The lesions block off their airway if they get bad enough.

You should just get up for good and give up the ruse of sleep. I've got my chores done already and getting ready to leave to go to work.

Just checked our weather forecast and it says SEVERE WEATHER ALERT: Record High Temperature

It's 52 out right now!

There goes our Christmas snow.

We are expecting 106f on NYD!

My eggs are locked down, I'll be busy tomorrow and given they've been hot a few timed I won't be too surprised if I have a few early hatchers. I didn't candle, my toe is to sore to stand that long.

Adding to the list of things that have happened to hatchers, I was racing out of the house half asleep, tried to avoid stepping on a cat and kicked the door instead. Didn't break the toe but I've put a nice V shaped slice into it and probably should have seen a Dr.

Why was I racing out half asleep you may ask? Because DH woke me up after getting the paper and says "You have a baby goat SCREAMING out there" but he didn't bother to check it.

I run down the stables in time to see one of my doelings has her leg caught up and before I could get to her she flipped upside down and I thought she was going to break the leg thrashing around.
barnie.gif
Thankfully I grabbed her fast enough and freed her before she did permanent damage. I could have smacked DH! Was it so hard to check her?

Now back to catching up nearly 20 pages...

So what do you do? Put ice cubes in bator to cool it down? Sorry about your toe, that hurts, but glad you saved your little goat's leg.

Is your Llama gentle? I tried to talk my sweet hubby into adopting an abused Llama a few years back but it had man issues so I decided against it in the end! I didn't want him to be spit at everytime he goes out into the garden

He's already assaulted by my geese

Good golly Rare Breed! Hope your toesie is feeling better and glad you got to that baby goat in time!

I was going to wait till day 19 for lock down as my humidity needed adjusting, but the air cells are looking ginormous, so I will lockdown today with everyone else, Yay!
ya.gif
I started with 44 and will be putting 31 into lockdown -I don't know that they're viable, I feel somewhat certain that they are not clear, and they are passing the 'sniff test'... So they're in!!

SCG: Great candling pics, very useful. Your flashlight/camera/egg juggling skills are top notch.

I'm going to Walmart in search of this skid proof incubator carpet that everyone is using. I'm not sure where to get it -anyone have suggestions?

Yes, I vaguely remember it....LOL Cool pic. Do the chickens go for a free ride often?

Just Java the EE. I'd catch her riding Sid throughout the summer. Seems she was a little intimidated by the ducks and figured the llama was the safest place.

When they go by the chicklets they stand up really tall and run

The waffle-weave shelf liner is what alot of people use. It's in the housewares section near the canisters, food storage containers, etc.

I just got out of the shower and peeked in the bator....

There are three more out: two Icelandics and one FCBM.

Dryness levels indicate the FCBM was first to hatch.

Thus: the first three of Mahonri's eggs to hatch are: FCBM, FCBM, FCBM.

Oblky maybejoey and dingo even guessed an FCBM... Mahonri is going to have to call this portion of the contest.
