3rd Annual New Year's Day Hatch!!

Looks like my muscovy eggs (8) of unknown gestation might just hatch our on NYE or NYD! I suspect one is a demise...3 are pecking at their shells. It's a clutch my girl abandoned (so has been in the bator for awhile)

Laree, what is that gorgeous thing you posted pics of???? I want one!

Boston, that bator looks AWESOME. PLUS you have two purebred Ameraucanas in there so we can hope ONE will be a roo that looks like Geoffrey!

For Easter Hatch, I'll teach you how I lock them down... in cartons, fat end up and the bottom lined with Wal-mart shelf stuff.

Daphne was a sizzle. She and Dozer were my first birds I ever hatched. Dozer broodied herself to death this summer, and Daphne just recently passed on Christmas.

The eggs were bought from a BYCer...but it is basically a Cochin/silkie cross. I you can get them on the auction part of BYC pretty regularly. I am going to toss all my little birds in with my Sizzle roo here pretty soon. I am already collecting eggies for Michelle, but if you want some, send me a PM before they all decide to go broody. They won't be "pure" anything, but they'll be cute!

Ugh. Four more patients, write paychecks, take all the info to the accountant, and go home and look for pips in the bator.
I probably won't get any until Saturday, but who knows... I can hope for day 18 pips can't I?

My kids laugh at me when I put my head down next to the bator and listen for peeps. "Dad!, you know they aren't due until Saturday right?"

Yeah, I KNOW!

Hooray.

I'm finally locked down. From 12 RIR shipped eggs started I ended up with 5 on lockdown. I had 5 clears, 1 early quitter and 1 mid quitter.

This is my 3rd hatch this Winter so I'm fine with just a few chicks.

I'm hatching in a Brinsea ECO20. I try to keep my humidity in the 40s for days 1-18 and then bump it up at lockdown to the 60s and above. I've found this works great for me.

Best of luck to everyone these next 3 days!

My nieces will be here for New Years so I'm hoping they'll be able to watch some hatching!

I got so excited reading all the posts I neglected my duties....

Forgive me.

Only 3 days left, the clock is ticking

It's time to...

This means to take out the turners, or for some, move the eggs to the hatcher. For many, it simply means to top off the water reservoirs and then STOP OPENING THE LID!

I know you want to know what's going on in there, but see that big glass space on your incubator, that's a window. That is where your nose goes. Just press it right up against that glass and look all you want. When you're tempted to open the lid, go sit on your hands.

If you still feel the need to open the lid, just remember, WE will know, WE have ways of finding you, WE will send the giant chicken after you, you don't want to make us do that. We don't like it, he scares us
