3rd Annual NYD Hatch "Designer" Egg Swap Thread

just got a call from dad saying there was a mysterious package for me at the house.

It could be either chicken eggs or Stick Insect eggs. either way i'm still happy about it.

Hooray! All my eggs arrived in great shape and are resting quietly until tomorrow.

I was getting soooo worried about them!! Hope they didn't mind the tour.
If you want I'll post some pictures on the parents, but I've never hatched anything from this roo, so both your incubator and mine will be full of surprises.

The darkest eggs are from my Red Sex Link hen. She is my best layer, my oldest layer and she is very onrey. I have two of her babies from the previous roo, they are only 8 weeks old but they have sweet personalities so far. My biggest beef with this hen (Charles - my son named her 3 years ago) is she has to hide her eggs, and if I find the clutch and take all the eggs, she will find another hiding spot.

On the acre they free roam on it can take months for me to find the eggs.

The smaller eggs are from a silkie cross. Crossed with what, I don't know. A friend handed her off to me 2 months ago. She has an anger management problem - she keeps trying to peck me, but is an excellent layer.

The humongous eggs are from another bird which was handed off to me with the silkie cross, she is another red sex link but so far, bland personality, although her egg laying is very consistant. She either hides her egg in the nest with Charles or in the official nest box.

The Roo is a black sex link. Papa was a Buff Orpington (hatchery quality, but nice eye candy) and the momma was a Barred Rock (hatchery quality).

I think those were who the eggs came from... If we get something weird I'll re-evaluate.

Sorry I don't have any naked necks to toss in there. Maybe next year.

So glad none broke - especially since I was stingy!

They should make for some interesting crosses...Hope they hatch.
