3rd Annual NYD Hatch "Designer" Egg Swap Thread

Yep, pets just like snakes can be pets. It's really great for people who are allergic to animals with fur or feathers because they can have a pet too. I vend at reptile shows and there's always 1 or 2 vendors who sell nothing but insects...mostly tarantulas, but there are also mantids, millipedes, centipedes, stick insects, and roaches....YEP I wrote that! People buy and sell roaches mainly to feed to other reptiles, but the giant hissers are quite cool.

As for hatching, I'm not 100% sure, but I don't think they need an incubator.

Oh and kids really

them.

Yep, they are the coolest and easiest of pets to care for!

They are incubated in moistened sand at room temperature, so no incubator needed.

The ones I am getting are Indian, Romulus tai, and leaf insects. The indian and tai are the long green stick looking ones you would see in most of the U.S.

yeah, all I can say is, the pullets will be great layers.

They will be quite the contrast to your adorable silkies.
My up and coming roo is turning into a real nice splash orpington... but he is only 12 weeks old, and the hens still chase him around. Hoping to hatch his babies for the easter hatch.

Stick insects! Cool idea. Almost as simple as a pet rock - and just as cuddley

Twenty-one days cannot get here soon enough! I have buff orpingtons, originally for their eggs, but they've become sweet pets and I love them to pieces. Gonna get a roo for them next year after I've built a 3rd pen so I can house the silkies and BOs separate. Right now they all run together, but I only have silkie roos w/them and am only hatching silkies.

Got my eggs the other day love the 2 dark speckled color eggs. not sure what breed or crosses LOL.

Hope my partner got their eggs. Not sure on what they got though. They came from spydertoys

Who is Rachael Wolfe?

The dark eggs are from my Welsummer pullet. Possible dads could be:
Welsummer
BCM
Black Ameraucana
Naked Neck
Blue Jersey Giant
Splash Silkie
RIR
Silkie Cross with HUGE rose comb
Splash Cochin
Blue Wheaten Bantam
Crosses

There were 2 Iowa Blue Eggs (Pure)
There were some for a chance of feather shanked Naked Necks
There were some I have no idea who laid them.

My first Welsummer cross hatched. It is a blue chick. (As a note, a friend that shows her chickens and she said I really need to show my Wellies, especially the one that is laying. If it is pure, you should have a nice bird as my cockerel's main fault is his legs are a little light.) Good Luck

I'd expect the Charles eggs to give you nice pet/layers, assuming they are pullets.

The two Charles babies I have running around will come up to me and not act surprised when I pick them up. One of them was carried around in a local parade and all the little children (with sticky candycane fingers

) wanted to pet the chicken. Hopefully, someday I'll have a nice flock of purebred somethings... but with our economy the way it is, and how few eggs hatch when they are shipped, it may be a while.

It would be fun if I got a nice little flock of Easter Eggers from this hatch.

That would be an awesome little suprise.

Candled today at day 8, here are my results.

Greyeyes.... of the 7 ( I think you sent 9, but 2 were cracked) I pulled 1 egg. The big white Josie egg.
