I am a first timer at raising chicks and posting on BYC. I have a flock of 5 three week old chicks. A polish crested, silkie, brahma bantam, two barred rocks. This morning when I got home from work I noticed my polish crested is bald! My husband said he didn't notice it last night so it must have happened recently. There is a bald patch on poor little Dorothy's head. The weird thing is she isn't one who usually gets bullied by the twins (the twins are the two barred rock chicks who are big jerks to my other chicks). So I'm not quite sure what to think of this bald spot. Is it something that happens naturally as cresteds develop their feathers up there? I thought shes too young to molt and there is no sign of feathers being pecked at anywhere else on her. Also, I have noticed that she has runny poop. Shes not acting sick, and I have been giving them medicated starter feed to prevent coccidioisis. I inspected it closely and theres no blood or mucous in it. iIs just a runny, thin consistency. Any help would be appreciated!
