4 1/2 year old layers?

I saw a post for someone who has Silkies and Buff Orpingtons available. They mentioned that they are all approximately 4 1/2 years old and are all laying. I can see that the Orpingtons still might be, but doesn’t that seem a little long for the Silkies?

I haven't had silkies but I would bet they probably are just laying really infrequently.

Same for the orpington - they will though have big eggs. My broody hen just got done raising chicks, she is I am thinking close to 5. Laid a few, the last to start this spring, and went broody in May. She technically is laying again now... but she will be the first to molt, and nothing for the dark days of winter...but she raises some mighty fine chicks.
