Well Hello

6 weeks ago this coming Friday my husband and I got 4 - 1 day old Golden Comets (sex linked).

Their coop (hen house & run) are in the process of being built. It will have 1/2 inch black coated wire mesh, cinder blocks under the framing and wire skirting to protect the girls. It will be completely roofed so the Florida sun doesn't overheat them.

So far I've thoroughly enjoyed them. I could spend hours watching them. This past week I brought them outside to a makeshift run and spent time watching them explore and learn how to be chickens.

I'm guessing I have the "chicken math" down pat from the get-go since getting 3 chicks turned into 4. You can't have an odd number. Lol, ok ... maybe it's my OCD and not chicken math.

Anyway ...glad to be a part of a support group. I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions and maybe someday I'll be able to help a newbie out.

Take care .... see you all on the board.

I could write a book but I type slow. I have a box fan in each of my pens for those 95+ degree days, also a fan inside each coop. I turn the fan on in the coops before they go to roost for the night. The fan in the coop blows air out the vent and not directly on the chickens. Indirect airflow comes in through the other vents providing gentle airflow through the coop. It also helps in expelling ammonia fumes from soiled bedding.

Yep ... immersed in it now. I've done nothing but read, research and ask questions since I got them. Thanks. 😊🐔
