4.5 yo Orpington Still Struggling

She weighed 1743 this morning, so we're moving in the right direction. A couple of good poops in the cage this morning, too.

She doesn't fight it, and I haven't needed to wrap her. She might be getting used to it because she isn't panting this morning.

She's also eating a little on her own, so I'm sure that's helping. I'd like to see her drink and walk more, but it's only been a couple of days. I wonder if tubing the liquid is giving her enough that she doesn't feel the need to drink as much?

Just keep offering food and water. Sounds like she's doing quite well.

New question: Is there a limit as to how much I should feed per day? I know I shouldn't exceed 23 mL per lb of body weight at each feeding.

Today, for example, I tube fed 85 mL total over 3 feedings (minus what remained in the tube). She also ate some mash and some egg.

And she still isn't drinking on her own.

I go by their weight each morning. If they're loosing, give more. If they're gaining, keep an eye on their body condition so you're not going to make them too heavy.

She was eating some on her own yesterday, so I only fed her 3 times. And she lost weight, of course. So I'm going back up to 4x/day. I go back to work tomorrow, so it'll be tricky. But if I feed her early (5ish), then again at 8, I can squeeze in a 3rd feeding at 3ish and a 4th at 6ish. I'll make sure she has food and water when I leave for work. This is tricky. Wish I'd started this sooner.

She's very alert and talkative. She uses her beak to dig in the bedding. She just isn't walking. She can stumble a few steps and then sits. I wish I knew what to do to fix it for her.

I'm bringing Iris in this afternoon for a visit. Iris needs her feet cleaned up, so I figure they can hang out in the living room for a few hours.
