4 chicken limit

Hey, BYC members!
I know a family who wants to get chickens at some point, but they can only have 4 where they live.
Any breed suggestions? They have young kids, and want eggs but also pets.
I was thinking Australorps would be pretty good for them...
So if you could only have four chickens, what breed would you pick?

Easter Eggers, Marans, and Meyer Hatchery's Cookies and Cream, the sweetest chicken breed, ever!

At least in my flock, my best layer is my Easter Egger (better than my Orpingtons too). She is super sweet, plus you get fun egg colors! I also had a Cream Legbar who laid really well, but she was a bit more flighty.
I have a Cuckoo Marans who is the sweetest girl ever! She will jump onto my lap at any chance she gets! She is still a pullet, so I can't really say much about egg laying.

I'm not so sure an Orpington, Wyandotte and RIR would lay very different shades of eggs.

I would do a fun breed. There are many interesting Brahma varieties and they’re very large and docile. I personally LOVED the temperament of the buff laced ones for kids-gentle, incredibly quiet compared to the other varieties, and in my opinion very cute. They’re also affectionate and loved to be pet and have chin scratches. I also think English Orpingtons or if you somehow could find any, Rhodebars would be great and very friendly breeds but both are louder.

I’ve raised I couldn’t tell you how many different breeds/varieties from common to very rare and I think these are the most beautiful

I don’t have an Orpington right now, but I can promise you my RIRs’ eggs are a much different color than my Wyandottes’ eggs.

Buff Oprington and Barred Rock are both calm and friendly breeds! My choice! Also good layers
