4 chickens but getting 5 eggs?

can anyone please let me know how some mornings we are getting 5 eggs but we only have 4 chickens? Could one be laying at night and then again in the morning?

How frequently is this occurring and are there days that you are getting 3 or fewer eggs? What breed(s) and ages are the birds in question?

Red Cross hens about 6-7 months old. And yes every now and then we only get 3 eggs.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. Red Cross is one of a number of labels under which a few hatcheries (Mt. Healthy for example) market their Red Sex Links which are egg laying machines. On occasion, a Red Sex Link will lay two eggs within a day (particularly if they did not lay one the day before) which is the probable explanation of how you are getting 5 eggs from 4 hens on some days.
