I have an Ayam Cemani chick that is only a few days old, seems to be in perfect health, eating, drinking, pooping, but then will start to chirp in distress and collapse, itching frantically at her eyes and ears until she passes out from exhaustion. I have given her nutridench, chick electrolytes/probiotics, and raw egg yolk in case it was a vitamin deficiency. I removed the hemp bedding in the brooder in case it was a respiratory irritant, no change. I added a humidifier this morning in case her ears are just too dry, no noticeable change. My next solution is food grade DE in case it’s mites or lice (is this possible on a 4-ish day old mail order chick? She is vaccinated for mareks. I also purchased her along with two sussex chicks that have not had any similar issues.

After each episode I’ve picked her up and she’s immediately woken up and been normal again. She does tend to stuff her whole head into the chick feed and ends up with powder all over her face, I was hoping she was just itching because of that but I’m not very confident in that after watching the last fit.

Any advice/insight would be greatly appreciated. Does she need antibiotics? It doesn’t seem like a seizure after watching it happen several times. She is very specifically scratching at her ears and eyes. I don’t see anything in them but I don’t have the best eyes and no magnifying glass or anything to explore further.

I will add a video shortly, just need to figure out how

You can clean and apply VET RX to the eyes with a cotton ball and with a Qtip to the roof of the mouth until you see moisture through the nostrils. Hope you the best on it out.

I apologize for any misleading information. This is how I treat my birds with eye worms, eye irritation or any respiratory issues that linger on it has worked in many cases for me.
Its perfectly fine, you may have developed a method to do this safely but someone else may not. Unfortunately camphor won't treat wye worms.

D.e won't Don anything for mites.
Check her ears and eyes for dry skin or anything odd.
I can’t really tell if her ears are dry but her eyes seem ok. I put a humidifier by the brooder and I think it might be helping. I’m in Colorado so the air is very dry.

If it is mites or eye or ear worms, what should I treat with?
