4 day old chick almost pecked to death

That's great to know! I was so worried she'd be bare forever!
Lol. Yes she should be able to get her feathers back. Once her skin scabs over the new skin growth will develop and will push the scab to fall off naturally. So it will be bare skin for little bit at that point but then eventually you will see new feathers begin to develop.

Hi everyone! Just have some updates and new questions on the little chick! I'll start with the questions! I'm wondering if it's okay to stop putting the antibiotics on her, because(a) she doesn't have any open wounds and (b) it seems to be soaking into her feathers and making them look wet all the time. Should I wash her, to get the ointment out of her feathers? She's also 1 week old today and so I have the temperature at 85F and she is always under the heat lamp like she's cold, is she? She's also been peeping all the time, constantly, more than chicks do usually, so I put in a chick stuffed animal (the yellow in the picture) and it seemed to help a little bit, but she's still constantly peeping. What does she want?
By the way she's doing much better and her back is healing! Thank God! Here are some pictures!

Wow she is looking better. I'm glad she is recovering well. My guess she is cheeping alot because she is lonely. It was such a traumatic event for her to be rejected then taken away and put in a new environment. If she doesn't have a companion i think what your doing works but I would maybe look into finding her one.

As far as the ointment goes I kept using it till I saw the skin form like a scab then I stopped however I am not an expert my bird pecking event 3 months ago was my first experience. So I'm just trying to share what I just learned. My chicks healed in a brooder mostly before I moved them to a heat light setting. I kept their temps about 87-90 the whole time.

She could be cold at 85 just at 1 week old, especially with the back wound. How did she do when the temp was warmer? Was she always underneath?

Did yours part the feathers like the feathers were wet because that's what's happening to my chick, and I'm just wondering if i should give her a bath or something.

She was always right under the light when it was warmer, except to eat and drink.

Yes the feathers looked wet on mine where I applied the ointment. I used a q-tip to be more precise on the skin location and I never took mine a bath since theirs were head wounds. I would be worried about stressing the chick out more by getting it wet. The feathers dried out eventually. I would only apply the ointment 1 time per day once I saw the skin healing.

Temps maybe move to between 87-88 to be alittle warmer and then by end of week try 85. Smaller temp step downs might be better for her.

Hope this helps some.
