I have a 4 day old BO chick who is constantly opening her mouth to cheep, but not much of a sound comes out. Occasionally she will shake her head and cheep loudly. While the rest of the chicks sleep peacefully, she continues to open her mouth like she is trying to breathe/cheep. I've checked the temperature (fine), I've seen her eating and drinking, and I've checked for pasty butt. What else can I do? This does not seem normal to me with my limited experience. THANKS!

Maybe its just yawning?

Aloha Delphinium,

I had the same thing with my Cornish-Crosses. They constantly seem to pant alot. Just monitor the water supply and make sure your chickie is still eating, drinking, and gaining weight. If not do a visual check in it's nostrils and mouth to see if there is an obstruction or blockage. You know babies sometimes swallow things that they can't handle. Hope this helps....
