I thought they might be too young to go outside, but it was so nice out, I thought a little time wouldn't hurt. They were loving it! The funniest part was when they would jump and try their wings and bomb their sisters. What nice little girls I have...

too cute! I was thinking of taking my 4 week olds outside. It's partly sunny and low 70s. I guess that's ok? Right?

Edited to say: My chicks just spent about hour + outside and loved it!! They fluffed and dusted and ate, and ran around, and my older chickens were on the outside of the run checking them out. It was so cute.

That's great! I love watching chicks go outdoors for the first time. They have such a wonderful time.

i took my 10 day old chicks out today (NOT their 1st time). i WAS letting them have outside time in a birdcage with the floor off and that was fine i guess. but today was the 1st day i was able to put them in our movable run (a 7'x12' dog kennel with chicken wire along the perimeter)....so i was able to get in with them.

I have taken my girls outside since they were a few days old, and the love it. It was really warm, but now it has been cool the last few days, and I was afraid to take them out due to the cold and wind. They are only 2 1/2 weeks old. Since they seemed to have cabin fever, I thought I would take them out and see what happened. Turns out they acted just like it was 85 degrees and sunny, even though it was 45 degrees and windy. They ran around, trying out their wings, and as you put it, "bomb(ing) their sisters". You would have never know it was cold by the way they were acting!

Turns out these wonderful little creatures are much hardier than I thought!

We spent the last 4 days cleaning out one of our storage sheds so we can give it away and clear that area for a chicken run attached to our other shed (aka Chix n Shax). DH found some leftover hardware cloth; he said he thought there was plenty to make a small chick run for our six 3 wk old RSL pullets. Can't wait to take them out the first time to see how they react to Mother Nature.
