have fun!Yay!! A 4-Her thread!!
About me and 4H
I have been in 4H for 7 years, since I was 8. I am born in November so my age is one year behind.
I started as a cloverbud, did a few random projects. The next year I did wood working and rabbits.
After my first year actually showing I started breeding Holland Lops. Came back to the next year in rabbit, my siblings and I won most of the plaques with our lops. I also showed horse that year. Got 3 red ribbons, it was so much fun though!
A showed rabbits, and a horse once, for the next 3 years.
At the 4H age if 11 I for my first chickens and ducks, I showed a Partridge Chantecler hen, Buff Chantecler Hen, Pekin drake, and pekin duck.
I placed 3 and 5 with the hens for the hen class.
And I placed 1st with my drake and 2nd with my duck.
I also got 3rd in showmanship.
The next year I was not able to show due to Avian flu.
But this year I am coming full throttle!
I am bringing in
1 LF Blue Cochin Frizzle Cockerel (SQ)
1 LF Blue Cochin Pullet (SQ)
1 Bantam Black Cochin Frizzle Cock (Hatchery Quality, but not to bad looking(
Trio of egg production pullets, I choose some Red Sex Links.
**There is only 1 other kid serious about poultry in the show, so that's why I bring in hatchery birds also.

Great jobI showed my feeder goat today and I got 1st place novice showmanship and 3rd place in the feeder goat class!!!
I worked with the cochins and red sexlinks today and yesterday.
Tomorrow is the show for non living exhibits.
I am exhibiting 1 dozen brown, 1 dozen white, 1 dozen other colored, and 6 duck eggs.
And also the record books for all livestock and small animals
So today I had a Volleyball camp from 9am-11am, my younger sister then had hers from 11:30am to 1:30am.
After she got done my mom had to finish a conference call for work then we rushed to the judging of non living projects and records. I did my eggs first, the judge gave my brown eggs a blue, my white a red I totally agree though since they did not look uniform shape, my 6 duck eggs got a blue, and the judge was VERY impressed with my other colored eggs, she complimented me on their uniform shape and color, I am hoping to get at least Superior exhibit with them.![]()
Then I went to go do my poultry record book, like usual the person only knew stuff about swine, sheep, and goats. So I told them what breeds I have, what I feed, and some other things. He also told me that there are only 2 other kids showing poultry!!!!!![]()
The 2 other kids are cousins, they are in my 4H club, but they have hatchery birds, and I am assuming do not know much about poultry or how to show, they are very nice kids though.
My contestant number is 103
After all of this my grandma had to rush me back for the HS afternoon session from 2pm-4pm. I got there at about 3:15.
Yesterday I woke up at 4:15am to blow dry my chickens.
Some of them were still wet from their bath.
After that I got my bag water bottle and white shirt and we loaded the birds up and left.
Got to the show had to get them all tested.
Got their cages ready, put them in.
The rabbit show was first, it took forever, my younger sister got Grand Champion JR. Showmanship.
My trio of red sex links got 1st place pullet trio.
My Bantam Black Frizzle Cochin cock got 1st place for his division.
My LF Blue Cochin Pullet got 1st place for pullet class. She also got Grand Champion Breeding Poultry and Grand Champion Senior Showmanship.
I took the blue Cochin for the Premium sale, you don't actually sell them local businesses just bid on them, I got $425!!!!
The eggs did not go further for placing. The person who got grand and reserve had dirty eggs that were not in uniform shape or color..
Congratulations. From experience I've realized if Judges just see that one family is getting a lot of the awards they tend to want to share with other families. So sometimes they take away from what you may have gotten because your family got so much.Yesterday I woke up at 4:15am to blow dry my chickens.
