I've been trying to get in touch with 4-H in my area, my own county and the neighboring one. I know I'm going to have extra show quality birds and I want to donate a few, but no one is returning my emails or phone calls.

Do I need to know the password? Is this some secret society and if I enter it, I'll have to be killed?? Anyone have a good relationship with theirs? Can you show me the secret handshake?

Did you look at the Cornell Cooperative Extention? They can lead you to your county 4-H. Let me know what you come up with.

When we first tried to join my son in 4 H it took about 2 weeks to get a phone call and I think I called 3 times. Ours is done by 1 lady and I think she stays very busy.

My son has since joined the goat club ( there isn't a poultry club in our area ) and I have to say the leaders of his goat group are outstanding.

I know how you feel. My 4-h club is in a suburb area so the only thing they specialise in is Dogs!!!!!!!!! What a rip. I want to move to a farm but not to far because I don't want to be far away from my friends

* Kinda tough having a decent 4-H went you can't have ANY livestock in the city limits-- and they just extended the city limits another 5 miles a year or so ago. . . I THINK most of the entrants this year came from the counties north of ours.

I am sorry to hear about your 4-H troubles. Your county extension office should have a list of all the 4-H clubs in your area, the head advisor's name and phone number. We have many clubs in our area to choose from. I do hope you find something. 4-H can be a great experience for kids.

* I think 4-H is still strong in certain areas in Florida--- It's just that MOST of the East Coast is urban or suburban south of LaKe Okeechobee. In fact, all the way from the Atlantic to the very edge of the Everglades is pretty much gated communities or condos or residential of some sort. . . .
