4 legged chick Clover

Definitely ask a vet, but if that’s too pricey andother option could be to tie a string around the non-working leg. This is a method we used in Haiti when on a medical mission trip to help a small child with polydactyly. I’d recommend doing one leg at a time. But I do NOT have an “MD” or “DVM” after my name!

I’m sure she will be just fine, no matter what.
Name idea from my teenage son: Quattro Moto. Or Audi. ;)

Disclosure: I am not a vet. Or a human doctor.
In humans, extra fingers or toes can be removed by taking a piece of string and tying it tightly around the extra digit. It cuts off the blood supply and falls off in several weeks.
I know you have a vet appt, so may be worth asking about this option, which is cheaper/easier than the vet snipping/cutting them off. (And maybe less painful for the chick.)

BTW, my teenage son recommends the name “Quattro Moto.” (A play on “four” in Italian and the Audi Moto brand Quattro). 😂

I wonder about mail order chickens. I was looking into a couple of new girls for my aging flock. One company mails pullets. I found that really odd and I would think quite traumatic. It was a two day process and I rejected it. I bought four new girls from Dare to Dream Farms in Lompoc, California and really like their operation, so I just ordered two more from them for this year. They deliver all over Northern California, so I'm much more comfortable knowing they come from a really good company.
Yep, got my Australorps from D2D and 6 years old now

I would ask the vet if he could “band” them instead. Basically, they would apply tiny little rubber bands right at the base of the legs, up tight against her body. This cuts off the circulation and the legs will fall off after a week or so. It sounds awful... but it’s the same process they use to castrate (and sometimes dehorn) calves and goats. It doesn’t hurt them. And no anesthesia necessary!

I saw on a vet show (probably Dr. Pol... that’s the one I like best) where they removed a cat’s extra toe that kept getting hurt & would bleed. They banded it, and a few days later it fell off. The cat would limp when the toe was hurt... but didn’t limp after the band was applied (they did shake the foot several times, but didn’t seem to be in pain.)

I saw someone mentioned dewclaws above... banding is another way they remove those. For some breeds they must be removed to show them... they are removed by banding while they are still puppies.

I think you should call the vet & ask if they can band them instead. This would also save her tail, create less chance for infection, and no risky anesthesia. Plus it could be done right away.

thank you so much you just made me tear up a little, it’s really comforting that everyone’s praying for her and hoping she does well you know honestly just makes me wanna work harder. She’s strong she’s really tough she can do this!
I am so happy Clover will be ok. You have done so well with her. I also have a special needs chicken ( just a cross beak), so I can tell you that the extra love and care you give them comes back to you tenfold.
