4 month old peachick sick.....help please

One of my 4 month olds is just laying there very lethargic dosent want to move and I just walked up to him and picked him up with out a fuss. He is sick and I am not sure what it is. Yesterday he was fine. Any suggestions?

Can you tell us a little more about your sick one? Is or has he been on the ground or with chickens? Where are you at? Any other symptoms that might help determine which route to go as far as antibiotics or treatments to use?

I would treat for coccidiosis and worm him. Separate him which if you have others they may already be exposed. But he sounds like he needs extra care. Corid is one of the best coccidiosis meds and I would worm him with panacur (safeguard) 10% suspension for goats. .5 mL (1/2 mL) orally down throat for 3 days. Then repeat same dose in 10 days. Are they on the ground outdoors? With other poultry?
I would also keep him warm, try to get him to eat, mashed up hard boiled eggs with some very small pieces of bread, anything soft that has high calories and protein. High protein isn't recommended for healthy chicks for extended times, but if he is lethargic like you described he needs it now.

Thanks for all of the answers I went to get meds for the pea and by the time I got home it was to late. The only thing we can come up with is he must have gotten into some molded feed. That is the only thing that could have taken him in one afternoon.
Thanks for all of your help and answers. I am worming all of the peas, chickens, and turkeys just in case. No they are not all in the same place. I am just doing it for precautions.

You are so right Deerman. I have 3 young ones now, and I am hoping every day they stay healthy. They are hard to keep healthy when they are so young.
