Hello all,

My 4 month old sebastopol started to act weird on Sunday, usually very skittish and hard to catch but was plopped by our back door and was easily pettable. By Monday when I got home from work the fiance mentioned to me she had not made it into the coop the night prior and seemed lethargic. We brought her inside and started her on some rooster booster with frozen peas and seemed to have little to no interest, she has not tried to stand unless provoked and will do so for less than a minute and slowly use her head to prop herself and then plop to her belly. She has a what sounds like a somewhat stuffy nose but no sneezing of any kind. Her feet are not swollen/hot/no sores or anything suspicious. I read somewhere to try some water therapy and she did great, splashed, swam, preened like nothing was wrong. I gave her some liquid child's acetaminophen as well. I'm at a loss on what to do next, please if anyone can give me some advice on what to do next I would appreciate it

@Goosebaby I have a girl in the house right now she is 4 months. Found her tripping in the field and brought her in. Im not a expert but do have young girls go lame on the left side this is my 3rd in 6 years. I think its a digestive issue when they cant use one side but maybe goosebaby has some solid ideas.

What feed is she on?

Is she eating normally?

What do her droppings look like lately? Have you noticed unusual colors like black, red, orange, yellow, pink, mostly white, bright green? Are they mostly liquid with bubbles? Are they solid squishy tubes or hard tubes with a lot of white?

What’s her body condition, has she been losing weight? Does her keel feel like a pronounced blade jutting out from her body?

Does she possibly have any access to stagnant old water, rotting fruit or vegetables, or a compost heap?

Also is there a chance she could have gotten into or been chewing on anything with galvanized paint chips or been chewing on anything metallic?
Possibly, the fiance just bought back an old truck and it doest have some shedding rust chips

You can try flushing her system https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/flushes-for-aiding-in-toxin-removal.700526/

If she has hardware disease usually flushing and CaEDTA are what’s used to treat it, but recovery depends on how much she ingested and what metals it is, zinc will flush out easier than lead but regardless it can be really costly and take a long time and does require a veterinarian as CaEDTA isn’t something you can find over the counter. The flushes in the link are something you can do at home though.

Her symptoms do point to that but they also point to a number of other issues like a vitamin deficiency or a number of illnesses, and alot of times it’s a vitamin deficiency caused by not eating because of an illness, like a gut infection or parasites. If that’s the case she’ll be underweight and her keel will feel like a blade jutting out from her torso, so if that’s the case it’s more likely been an ongoing thing and the vehicle was just coincidence.

So when lying down her keel feels sharp but upright it is not. So in the instance it is gut infection/parasite what are my other options?
