11 pips here now and the guinea fowl chick is out, and wowee he's noisy.
1 of the pips is at the wrong end, will see how he does. Its a dime sized hole right now whih always makes me nervous even at the right end because if not quick at zipping they seem to dry out if they have a hole rather than a shell covered pip.

As for names for yours, hmmm, i normally go with a theme or wait until I meet them and see what comes to mind. My pekins are very unoriginal - donald and daisy. My first pekins were milly, molly, mandy, mindy and maybe. My cayugas are luckie (he was stuck in his egg with his foot caught behind his neck and wouldn;t have made it without help), Bruno and Jumbo. No rhyme or reason, just what came to mind at the time!

The one with the pip at the wrong end is struggling to turn in the narrow end but I can't do anything to help with all those other pips in there

I already have mine named and they're not even popped yet. Haha! Came up with Farfig, Nugen (pronounced noo-gen) and Nubbin. Lol! Had a Rouen a long time ago named Pip Squeek and a turkey named Gilligan (after he claimed the island in the middle of the fish pond). I'm sure when you get to know the little guys you'll figure something out . My little guys are killin me with anticipation. And I just found out that I have a birthday party to goto the day the ducks are scheduled to hatch!! What do I dooo!??

you named them already! haahah. if it were me i would skip the party and stay with the ducklings
i think i can hear faint peeps from the eggs - ether that or the wild birds chicks have hachted....they are to hatch on sunday, so i should stop turning them right?

I wouldnt turn them after today. and yeah i already named em, haha. Im so worried about the chicks because one of them has a crach in its shell, i dont want it to dry out or anything and have issues coming out of the egg and i miss the opening and lose him.. BUT on the other hand id feel bad for skipping out on my friends kids bday because shes had it planned for the last three weeks... yeah ducks have been around longer but i still think they come after the kids, maybe, possibly? Darn it they do...UGH

Anywho, the party is from two til six, nothing says i have to stay the Entire time theyre there..... riiiight???

Im looking for some pintail ducks if anyone knows of anywhere i can order some eggs??

I'm all done!
Today was day 28 here but I came down at breakfast and 9 were out. By lunchtime there were 14 and now they are all in the brooder

4 khaki campbells, 4 pekins and 6 saxony babies

The one who pipped at the wrong end had a rough ride. I confess I helped a little by extending the crack by poking a bamboo skewer through the vent hole

Worked fine - not even sure which one he is now!
And in the last two one came out foot first which I've never seen before - it was as if when he turned to zip he went at an angle and a foot popped out through the pip and he carried on turning. I had to help him, he'd never have got out - his head was almost up the other end and a whole leg out of the pip when I got him out!
The other 4 eggs were day 25/26 quitters.
All in all not bad I think. I started with 24 eggs. Now 14 ducklings. The saxony and KC eggs were shipped and it was 50% hatch rate overall for them and 100% hatch rate for my own pekin eggs.

I will post pictures later, just charging my camera battery!
