4 of 6 TSC chicks are gone

I got 25 from Mc Murrary and saw these guys and just had to bring them home. There were 4 comet pullets, they are all doing really well! but the bantams are NOT doing well. they have two feeders, two waterers, about 200 square feet in the brooder pen. all clean fresh bedding. I think I'll stick with Mc Murrary from now on

Out TSC has only gotten in a few bantams, and I wouldnt even let our daughters THINK about touching them as they have ALL looked bad to me, the bigger chicks look fine but the bantams have all been sickly to me!

I was chatting on another thread and a person from NH bought 3 bantams from TSC and they were in bad shape 1 died and the others are not doing well. When I saw the same chicks on saturday they were cold and in a small cardboard box , I moved the heat lamp closer to them but an employee moved it back they were the tiniest little chicks I have ever seen. With reading all the threads and recent posts since saturday I am starting to question the care that they are being given or the way they are being shipped high mortality rate just look at the states that are posting Maine , NH , Minnesota, N. Carloina etc... look at random ramblings

Bantam chicks for the most part don't ship very well to begin with. Its why I'm very leery of sending any of my silkie day olds in the mail. They sit in the post office or a truck enroute and its COLD at night. The bantams are so tiny and they get trampled by other chicks and tossed around in the boxes. The pasty butt you are experiencing is usually to to being chilled/stressed at some point.

updated.... only one of six survived. I'm thinking about sending TSC a letter. It just doesn't seem right. All of the 4 LF chicks did and are doing great!

Sorry to hear about your losses. I picked up 6 bantams from our local TSC 3 weeks ago, and all are doing great. I asked where they got them, and I was told Mt. Healthy. I had 1 with pasty butt that I cleaned up, and it's been fine ever since. They all have been healthy and lively from the beginning, and are growing into quite a bunch of characters! Guess I got lucky?

I only lost a couple out of 30 some bantams from TSC.One (silver duckwing) the day we brought the 2nd run home and a millie fleur.Im not so sure that the Millie didnt get stepped on in the basement by one of the kids down there doing laundry and didnt notice the bird on the floor. It was a roo and well over a month old so I doubt it got cold.I still check my last run from TSC daily for pasty butt's.they are going on about 3 weeks old now and havent lost any of them yet.I had gotten some more duckwing's and maybe one OE a few more sebrights a couple cochins and actualy 3 frizzles from my 3rd bantam buy there.Never had any problems with TSC chicks. We bought RIR's and Americauna's last year and they all did super. Some of those bantam's are so tiny though and so crowded in shipping etc. They had a small bin of of some lame ones' a couple times.I had actualy pulled poos off a couple birds butts in the store baaaaa I couldnt stand it!.

.Broke My heart .I was calling like everyday to see when more arrived.I will go again next year of course if thing's work out for us.I got lot's of babies and bird's again so I am happy. But always hate to hear about someone's loss I know it's heartbreaking.I hope you can get some more chicks soon.

I bought 6 banties from TSC and only lost the little one that I bought as a rescue. I knew it didn't stand a chance when I brought it home, it was just too small. The ones I have seen here have looked good. A little crowded, and the small ones don't stand a chance if they are bullied, but I think that is probably pretty normal for feed store chicks.

I am sorry that you lost your chicks. It is really hard to loose the babies.
