Today my moms dog killed a mama hen that had 4 doodles. To keep the doodles from being eaten I took them in. 2 are injured, and 2 aren't. One of the injured ones falls over & twitches sometimes and the other injured one is weak and breathin real slow. I know the injured ones most likely wont make it but I don't want to just kill em & throw em out like my neighbors do. I have a HUGE love for all animals, including chickens.

My main concern is: Will they survive? What are their chances?

They are in a large box right now with lots of soft carefresh bedding and grass. They have 2 small water bowls(not deep enough to drown in.Its the depth of the lids from jars of babyfood). Along with ground up food & oats. There is earthworms in there as well, They are tearin them things up quickly!

For a heat sorce I have a desk lamp with 100-200watt bulb,(cant remember exact watts) clipped onto the side of the box with a soft baby blanket over the lamps & box to keep the heat in. (Since I have rodents in the house that can't be in heat, the lamp & blanket is all the heat sorce I have for the chicks.) Its pretty warm in the box if I do say so myself. Probably around 80-90 degrees Fahrenheit.( I read on another forum that this was alright?)

I need to know what to do to try to keep the 2 healthy boogers alive and what to do to either make the two injured ones less painful or how to help them.

There are no other mama hens on the hillside so its all on me. No one wants them, The guy who the mama hen belonged to said he'll just throw them over the hillside so these 4 love bugs will be with me until either they pass away or grow into healthy hens/roosters. I just need some advice and instructions on what to do.

Thanks!

you could get them save-a-chick, its like vitamins and electrolytes which help when in shock

probably get them on a medicated chick starter too

the injured ones: its probably a wait and see unless you can maybe tape a busted limb depending on the injury

your blanket is a huge fire hazard, take that off (if they are cold they will cuddle together or go under the light, when hot away from the light)

150 - 250 watt bulb is fine

Good luck!
