4 to six is close enough to 10.

Hi! My husband has always wanted chickens so we took the plunge & picked up our chickens today at the local fair. I wanted silkies & got 3. I was looking at some Polish but my meandering husband reappeared with two boxes of Ameraucana & Wyandottes. I put my wants on the back burner for now as I was planning on 4-6 and now we have 10.

They are in the garage for the next few weeks. I have tons of questions but won't unload them all here!

Please feel free to ask any and every question you need to; we are here to help. Good luck with those cute babies!

Congrats. I did the same thing.
Earlier in life we had 100 layers and occasionally meat birds. Later in life when I did it again I went to get 4 or 6 and came home with 10 a little bigger than yours. Within 3 months I had 100 again.
That's just a word of warning - chicken math is a real thing.
Setting the food and water up on bricks helps to keep them from scratching shavings into them.

Enjoy all your new adventures. If you have any questions, that is what we are here for. Welcome to our flock!

Hello :frow and Welcome To BYC! What a cute little flock! Yes, Chicken Math strikes again!!!

Some people would probably feel 12 is better number, it sounds so solid and even numbers are usually better than odd. So get yourself more silkies. If your husband can't restrain himself, it isn't your fault.

...and then we lost two (coccidiosis) and On Friday rehomed 4 (roosters) and Saturday picked up 5 pullets. How many chickens does Little Johhny have? LOL For extra credit: How many chickens would Little Johnny have if he got 2 started EE's before end of September.). :D

Welcome to BYC! Glad you decided to join our flock. Sorry about your losses. It's always sad to lose some of our flock. Beware of "chicken math." Few BYC members are immune to it. :o) Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.
