Does anyone know what’s going on with my chick. This should be my 4 week old Azure Blue chick (I have 7 all different breeds). This morning I’ve noticed feather loss on the one side of her face does this look like regular pecking order stuff or something serious?

I haven’t seen them picking on her but I’m not sure what I am looking at here. I’m keeping an eye on her but I’m not sure what my next step should be or if this looks like something else doesn’t seem to have any broken skin of anything like that.

I’d appreciate any help if anyone has any clue what this is and next steps if necessary.

Thanks

Welcome to BYC!

It's hard to see what is going on in this pic. It isn't very clear.
I think I see red wattles coming in which might mean it's a male.

How many chicks total do you have?
What are you keeping them in right now? Pics of it?
What are you feeding them?

All of the above questions will help pin point what is going on.

7 chicks they’re in a 2x4x2 brooder box.
Apparently I can’t go by waddles or the comb size on the azure blue as the females also have large combs and waddles.

I cleaned her face earlier to see if it was just dirty or something looks a bit better still looks straggly but she still has down feathers there I’m not sure if that was just it.(I’m just calling them all her until we know for sure) they were purchased day old pullets from freys.

They are having chick crumble occasionally some fruit or soaked mealworms and grit available if they need it plus going for outdoor trips into their run where they try whatever they want.

Did you ever figure out what this was? One of my 3 week old chicks has the same thing going on on one side of her face and I'm not sure whether to be concerned or not.

Fortunately in this case it ended up just being dirt or wet food on her face it had just wetted down the feathers and they dried stuck like that. I cleaned her face and later when it dried up it looked normal.

I had given them some fermented food so it must have got on her face or possibly dirt or something similar.

Hopefully it’s just something like that when they’re fully feathered the feathers don’t seem to get matted down or stuck like that.
