My wee babies are about four weeks old today, I’ve heard they’re sexually mature at 6 weeks old “which is when the girls can begin laying and the boys will start to crow,” and they’re physically mature at about 8 weeks old.

However I’m very confused by this because one of my babies just stood up on their tippie toes and tried to crow. It wasn’t a full adult crow, but definitely what I would call an attempt. Prior to this I was starting to strongly suspect that this little one was a girl, they may be Andalusian but the strong speckled bib pattern looks like a girl….yet “she” just tried to crow?

The quail in question “Cloudberry.”

By comparison this second baby “Blueberry” who’s wild type “pharoah” is definitely a girl if that speckled bib means anything.

And the third is an another Andalusian “Peach” who will remain an enigma until they’re old enough to be vent sexed because the dilute came in much stronger than with Cloudberry.

The lighting in my house is terrible unfortunately and my camera won’t focus right as a result, but I hope the images are clear enough.

So has anyone heard of a 4 week old crowing?
