She's is either Red Brown or in Starbucks league - Starbuck is developing a red chest like that even now. I'll keep taking photos to see what each shade turns out as. Yours is gorgeous!

The black/browns have mahogany heads now, very striking. The darkest males still have brown tips to their red combs and the darkest pullets have primarily brown tinted combs at this point.

The medium black browns are pretty but the red browns, and the darkest black browns have them beat.

I'll get a pic of my one spectacular very dark Roolet and my already fairly stunning red/brown Roolet Jack Sparrow. He's drop dead gorgeous. And sweet. Oh my.

For chicks from production stock I've no complaints. Plenty of good things here to work with to produce better from. These are from Welp, couldn't recommend them more highly.

Since all these are almost five weeks. LOL we'll see about laying in about Feb. /March.

I'm told that I'll have to decide whether to lean toward a male or a female SQ type. That doesn't matter so much for a heritage flock except that I need to show some to get some good solid direction.

Since I really want to get up to the size and potential of a good heritage barred rock, I'll probably focus on great quality hens, good layers, good foragers and good mothers first. And keep working toward the standard. And keep upgrading. Means lots of freezer chicken and growing out lots of birds. But I like that part.

More pics when I won't freeze my privates off trying to take pictures.

Man, it's cold out there.
