4 weekers and 9 weekers

There was blood. My little RIR was getting tail feathers broken, so I had to make a judgement call. I’m not sure it was the right one, but I just don’t want to risk another potentially more serious injury. We made them an area where they are still among the others, sort of. They just can’t intermingle. We fenced off an area that attaches to their brooder. With us leaving for vacation Friday, I just don’t feel comfortable leaving them in someone else’s hands while trying to mix them. I treated the RIR with vetricyn and blu kote. I separated her for a bit to make sure the bleeding had stopped. I coated her butt really well again before putting her in with the rest of the babies. All is going well and they aren’t pecking at it, thankfully. I hope everyone has enjoyed their long weekend.

UPDATE:

We had the littles (who aren’t so little anymore) in a divided off area made out of hardware cloth attached to their brooder. It was out in the run and they could see each other but not touch. The bigs are 13 weeks now and the the littles are 8 weeks. We let them out to intermingle a couple of days ago and so far so good! They stay pretty separated, but other than a bit of chasing and pecking here and there, it’s going great! They all even have gone in the coop together at night. I just wanted to give an update and to say thanks again for all the help and advice. These forums have been a lifesaver!

A bit of pecking is normal. They will be completely integrated in a week or so
