I have a Cornish X chick 4-5 wks old. Was fine, strong & eating well. When I came back from Memorial Day weekend, he/she was on his tummy and flopping to get around. His feet seem awfully big - can't really tell if they are swollen. I feed chick starter, water with a drop of vinegar in it, and chickweed starts pulled from the garden area with dirt on them. I also give the chicks sand/dirt from my yard for grit, along with oyster shell ground up as much as I can. Last night I separated my other 3 chicks from him, don't know yet what his poop looks like. They are bedded on oat straw - just changed the bedding so it is pretty fluffy and even harder for him to get around in. I put some ground up magnesium/zinc vitamin pill on his greens but I don't think he has eaten much of anything since I put him in the new cage. His toes are curling in a bit. Is he growing too fast? Should I be withholding food for 12 hours at a time? Please help!

I'm not positive about the rules with meat birds.... but I thought only laying hens needed oyster shell??? Maybe he ate some straw or something? I'd try taking food away from him, and maybe just giving him grit and water... that may clear him out if it was something he ate?

As you can see from the pics, my meat chick (Entre) lol, is much larger than my other chicks - a GLW, Buff Cochin, and Barnvelder cross (hoping they are all pullets!)

Does anyone think he needs calcium?
