41 eggs this morning...Round III

my third of three green eggs hatched last night. So it was chick #30....but chick #29 didn't make it....so 29 out of 41...not bad. Green eggs were three of three ( 0 for 7 on the first two tried).

Very happy! I think my last 11 eggs are not going to make it, so I am pulling the plug at noon today...might set again in a few weeks, but my egg production is way down. I sold my 4 Golden Comets and I have two broodies right now (been sitting around a 14-16 days?)

I have gone from 14-16 eggs a day to 7-10 eggs a day.

I was taking me 2 1/2 days to get 41 for the bator, right now that is about 5 days...so I will wait a while...might should for a June 1st hatch?

Hey there,

Sorry I didn't join you for the hatch! But congrats! Sounds like it went great. And 3/3 on the green chicks is excellent.

We actually ended up having the eggs incubate at my friends house (she wanted to see her chicks hatch) so I wasn't there for the hatch. We moved them within the first couple hours of incubation so I didn't think it would have a lot of impact... but maybe it did. She only got 2 out of 24 hatch

I've had terrible luck so far and I'm pretty sure now that my humidity through incubation is too high. I've had tons of eggs make it to lockdown and then they don't hatch despite the fact that they're fully developed and have absorbed their yolk. We live right on the coast of Maine and it's really foggy here, so for my next hatch I think I'm going to try a dry hatch and see if that helps.

I've had back luck with my broody too. One of them hatched out eggs last week and out of 6 chicks that hatched out fully (I had a few more pips that didn't progress) only 2 survived. My second broody just had her first chick hatch a few hours ago... hopefully this one will go better.

I'm a hatching disaster!!!

I would think you could go with a dry hatch until lockdown and then add just a little water for lockdown, maybe 50-60% at most if your air is that moist.

We have about 60 chickens today between 14 months and 14 days, so we are going with no more hatches for now.

How are the pigs coming?
