thanks everyone this killing spree only put a dent in our flock lucky for us they only got to the youngins.
redrooster yes 1 weasel killed them all and no they did not eat any of them they kill for the heck of it I did hear they actually drain the blood how true this is I dont know.
Luckily there was only one otherwise the damage would of been far worse we had totaled up our loss figured in 1 year the egg loss is around 11,000 eggs give or take a few and with the turkeys which we take to sale would of earned us $325 not including any fertile eggs that we would of got to toss into the incubator.
as of late we have discovered we have a egg stealer set out traps but no takers that one is a pain as well as it seems to be taking a lot of turkey eggs we usually let our girls set their own since they do such a great job of it that will not be happening anymore now I am usually on a egg hunt out in the tall grass trying to find the turkey eggs before the thief finds them some days it wins and I come across a clutch of 10 to 12 eggs with a chunck taken out and all the insides gone.
what started this endeavor was after monitoring a clutch one of my girls was setting I went out one day to check her and she had been beaten off her nest and all that was left was a bunch of eggs just ready to hatch all ripped open they dang thing didnt even eat the babies just left them to die.
Sometimes I just want to call it quits but then I look at all my girls acting like clowns and running to me if they see a bucket or a bag and on feed day when we do all the unloading there they are to offer a bit of critisism and let us know how happy they are with all their goodies.
I added 2 new ducks yesterday finally got a call from the guy to come and get them 1 is a rouen male and the other I have no clue all I know is it is a cutey. Who now has a limp due to the fact that the guy lets his dog I believe it a pit mix to play out in the yard with them so he is being monitered hoping that it not permanent damage he seems to be getting along pretty well though.
