Okay guys this is what is going on.......... took roo a few weeks back, to my vet.. acting not right, wanted to do nothing but sleep...vet put him on an anti bacterial, his poops were showing yellow foam so I agreed looks bacterial. Meds, 2 ml of electrolytes every hour for hydration and organic baby foods for food fed by syringe, and cooked garlic did the trick.
I have had probs with bacteri 2xs in the last few years..garlic always did the trick by itself not this time.

After a week he was better and started to crow and want out. Still had 3 days of meds left so I had him stay in till finished..... ...He was outside for only a few days ......I noticed he was not crowing.... then he starts to seek me out twice- the day before yesterday...this tells me something is going on, so I brought him indoors asap,..... ...he starts to show the same signs as ere..sleepy, wont eat, his poop just a tinge of yellow so ....... I started him up on steamed garlic, mixed with 2ml of electrolytes- I could tell he was needing fluids. Gave him some probiotic from a capsul. since I was starting him on Kocci Free drops.

All day yesterday he was having probs with standing- this is a new symptom- Just scoots around. I made sure to stand him up to stretch his legs. He seemed to be alert, started to eat some cooked egg after I forced fed him some.He did get up -very wobbly to get away from me and the egg. Did not like being forced to eat it.

This morn Still cant walk. Doesnt want to eat after I again forced some egg into him , is alert. No one else is sick. No pox symptoms. No signs of anything else. If it is bacterial again I know I cought it way earlier than befoer but the not being able to walk is bothering me. Any ideas. really dont want to have to pay a vet bill again.

Is there something outside that he could be getting into that could be causing him trouble. I'm not real sure about this but, maybe you want to research botulism...

I cant think of anything outdoors that he could have gotten into. I made sure anything out there is chicken safe. I will check out botulism.

I have decided to treat with epsom salt just incase it is botulism. I really dont want to loose this guy, hes too sweet.

update on roo. Vet placed him back on baytril thinks the bacterial inf is on again. That was around 12:30pm. Just now vet said to start him on 1/4 tablet of prednisone..new symptoms are pecking at things that are not there, when asleep on my chest his head lolls to the back and left side. I am to call in the am on his progress. Then we will adjust his prednisone. I hope he makes it! While laying down he is showing signs of balance problems by swaying left and right. Prayers are welcomed.

My son's black australorp pullet died in his arms a couple weeks back...it was devastating to us all.

I'm not sure if you are up to it, but a necropsy may be able to tell you what really happened to your little guy. Again, so sorry for your loss.

Pretty much sure it is bacterial again, yellow in his poop. So we buried him in our yard.
