4th Annual BYC NYD Hatch-a-long

Now I have gone through the first 8 pages again, and I can not seem to find the answer...do we have to list the types and numbers of each type of bird on a spreadsheet somewhere? Or was I delusional when I thought I saw that rule?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

I just looked at the rules page and I don't see that requirement. I think if you read it in the thread, it was probably someone expressing how fun it is to see what everyone else is hatching.

ETA; You should state the total number of eggs set.

Ok... I'm going to beg some advice off of all of you been-there-done-that folks... That's what I love about this site... So much knowledge!

I set my eggs at noon CST and it is now 7:30PM. My Hovabator had been holding steady for the previous 24 hours at 99.4-100.2. When I put the eggs in, the temp was 99.6 and my humidity was only 26%, so I added some water and put my eggs in... 45 of them. I knew the temp was going to drop when I put my eggs in, and I was reading earlier posts that said don't touch it for 24 hours, but I just got home and went to check, and the temp is only 93.9 after 7 1/2 hours. I know the low temp is less dangerous than too high of a temp, but it will also delay the development of the chicks... Should I attempt to adjust the temp up just a hair, or should I sit on my hands to keep myself from fiddling with it for a full 24 hours??

Some of the Sebbies and American Buffs soaking up the sun.

We converted the garden into a goose pen for the winter. You can see several of our raised beds, made out of old road signs that we got from a TXDOT job. Besides being very useful they make excellent decor. ; )

I would bump it up a little. Mine all adjust very quickly, usually within an hour or 2, so I never wait more than 4-5 hours when making adjustments.

need some advice. My incubator was at 20 humidity before i put eggs in with no water, so i added some water to the one inner trough (hova bator) and my humidity went up to 87%! i emptied it of almost all water and it is now at 30%. How do i bring it up to a better level just add very small bits of water?

yup...I add it about a tablespoon at a time. I've been keeping mine around 30/35% so you should be fine were u are :)

I use something with a smaller area on top to evaporate if I'm getting too much humidity. I had a small cup I used . When I wanted it higher for hatching i used to put a wet soc in. I never liked the stuff on the bottom for water, too hard to regulate.

the eggs are part of the humidity, they are "Breathing" moist air, so the jump is not uncommon, so I have been told.

TMN- i would be very careful adjusting, because if you over correct, you'll fry them.

Thanks everyone!! chiqita i agree the bottom is so difficult because it you add too much it is hard to take the water away
